The IYCC is an international forum improving the recognition and support of young carers worldwide.
Since its inception, the conference has brought together researchers, practitioners, policymakers, civil society organizations, and young carers themselves to exchange knowledge, share lived experience, and advance action in the field.
Building on the success of previous editions, the IYCC has established itself as a key meeting point where research evidence, professional practice, and the voices of young carers intersect. Despite growing awareness, many young carers remain invisible in health, social care, education, and policy systems. At the same time, societal changes – including demographic shifts, evolving care systems, digitalisation, and global crises – are reshaping both caregiving responsibilities and support structures. IYCC 2026 aims to critically reflect on these developments and, crucially, to move from recognition towards concrete, sustainable action.

The conference sub-themes span the full pathway from visibility to impact. They address how young carers are recognized through research, data, and strategies that help identify and reach them, while also exploring how this knowledge can be translated into concrete action through support programmes, professional practice, and policy initiatives. Central to this is the perspective of young carers themselves, with a focus on how societal, political, technological, and economic changes shape their everyday lives and future opportunities. In addition, the conference provides space for emerging, cross-cutting, and interdisciplinary topics that open up new ways of thinking about support for young carers in a rapidly changing world.
